This Handmade Copper Ring with Faceted Garnet Gemstone was made from 1/2 round 6 gauge copper wire. I started by wrapping the wire around a mandrel, cutting the wire to the desired finished size, and soldering the seem with Hard Silver. Next, find a gauge wire that will just fit through your gemstone bead (this is the key to successful riveting). Using wire that is too thin will cause the tip to bend to one side when hammering. The correct gauge wire is then soldered to the ring shank using medium Silver solder. If you are experienced at soldering, you can solder both the ring shank and the rivet wire at the same time with Hard Silver solder. I then placed the Garnet bead on the rivet wire and cut the wire to within 1/16 of an inch from the top of the bead. I used a ball-peen hammer to rivet the bead to the shank. Finally, the ring is buffed to a matte finish and the Silver seem is plated with copper.
